First Aid with Adult CPR

 

 

           Purpose

Train individuals and families to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations, and to recognize and care fore life-threatening emergencies such as respiratory or cardiac problems, sudden illness, and injury.

           Prerequisites

None

           Learning Objectives

Identify how to respond to emergency situations by checking to see if it is safe to intervene. 

Identify how to reduce the risk of a heart attack. 

Recognize the signals of a heart attack and provide care to reduce the chance of cardiac arrest. 

Learn how to care for an adult who stops breathing. 

Learn how to give CPR to an adult whose heart has stopped beating. 

Learn how to care for an adult who is choking. 

Learn how to control bleeding. 

Learn how to care for nonlife-threatening emergencies such as a sprain, strain, or fracture. 

Identify how to use your community’s emergency medical services (EMS) system effectively.

           Length

Approximately 6 ˝  hours.

           Certification Requirements

Attend all class sessions. 

Successfully complete all skills outlined in the course. 

Pass a written test with a minimum grade of 80 percent or better for all components.

           Certification

Adult CPR certificate valid for one year. 

First Aid certificate valid for three years.
